Nick Makoha’s The New Carthaginians, draws on history, art and myth inspired in part by the 1976 Entebbe hijacking and the techniques of Jean-Michel Basquiat and has been shortlisted for the T. S. Eliot Prize 2025.  A powerful voice in contemporary poetry,  Nick Makoha is also a playwright and academic whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Poetry Review, Wasafiri, and the Boston Review. He won the Brunel University African Poetry Prize, the Poetry London Prize and the Ivan Juritz Prize, and was elected to the Royal Society of Literature in 2025.
